First snow of the Year

Today we woke up with a soft snow that lasted until 4:00 pm in the Wasatch Front. Having moved here from a state where snow rarely fell it amazes me watching snow fall in Utah.

Did you know that snow is frozen water that falls from the sky? In Utah we normally receive very soft, fluffy snow which must sound weird when you think of frozen water falling. And snow flakes have 6 sides but are never the same. The flakes in Utah are usually quite big about the size of a quarter.

If you enjoy snow, mountains, and a chill air you will love coming to Utah.

Tis the season for:
skiing
cross-country skiing
snowboarding
Snowshoes
Sledding
Snow ball fights

For those that have a chance to visit Utah I hope you enjoy the chance to watch the snow fall!

A True Paradise Is Waiting For You

Sandals Cancun

Vacationing with your family in Cancun Riviera offers many benefits. Though many cities are associated with constant partying, there are also many activities that are designed for young children and teenagers. Many children receive discounts at many popular tourist attractions. Selecting an all-inclusive vacation package for the whole family is one of the best ways for everyone to enjoy their vacation in Mexico, without having to worry about the cost.

If you are interested in visiting Mexico with your family, you will want to examine some of the many attractions that are specifically geared towards children. These attractions and activities are ideal for making the most out of your family vacation. Below is a summary of just a few of the many attractions and resorts that you may find exciting in Mexico. Contact your travel agent for more information.

Located on the Mayan Riviera is the Xcaret Theme Park. The Xcaret Theme Park is a wonderful attraction for those who are looking for a family resort. Located in Cancun, Mexico, the Xcaret Theme Park is a theme park that is often compared to Disney World or Disneyland. Similar to Disneyland and Disney World, you can expect to enjoy a fun filled day at Xcaret, thanks to amazing rides and attractions.

One of the Xcaret Theme Park's features is an underground river. You and your family can see plenty of beautiful tropical plants as you enjoy the river. Xcaret is also host to many wild and exotic animals. There is a butterfly pavilion, a coral reef aquarium, and you are given the chance to swim dolphins. Many children, as well as adults, will be thrilled with this theme park. In addition to the Xcaret Theme Park, Cancun offers many family friendly resorts. To find a luxury resort that offers family oriented activities you may want to check on the internet or speak with your local travel agent.

Cozumel also offers many great attractions and activities that are designed for individuals of all ages, including children. Cozumel is ideal for family vacation, especially because it has one of the lowest crime rates in Mexico, as well as the world. Cozumel is home to some of the most beautiful coral reefs. This often creates an incredible adventure and learning experience for children. If your children will enjoy scuba diving or snorkeling, then you will want to plan a trip to Cozumel.

With so many options for families, choosing a Mexican all-inclusive vacation is a great idea. Included in the vacation deal is drinks, snacks, hotel accommodations, meals and flight. Teaching children about various cultures and customs and letting them view the Mayan ruins first hand is an amazing lesson in geography and history. While education is nice, the above mentioned locations do not completely just focus on it. There are so many fun filled activities such as snorkeling, diving, swimming, hiking, fishing, sailing, parasailing, or relaxing in a Cancun spa. These activities are great for families with active children.

In addition to the above mentioned popular Mexican destinations are that are designed for the whole family, you may want to consider additional sights and attractions. Mexico has so much to offer you and your family. In fact, you and your family may wish that you could stay in longer.

Which MP3 Player is Right for You?

If you're trying to decide on an MP3 player and you find yourself a little confused by the huge variety of products and MP3 player accessories on the market--don't worry. You're not alone. The last few years have seen huge growth in the market for these popular, portable music sources. But once you know a little about the various types of devices and their capabilities, you can choose the MP3 player that is right for your use and your budget.

Hard Drive Based Players

The first main type is the hard drive based MP3 player. These are the highest capacity devices, starting at 20 GB of memory and going up from there. A hard drive based player, as the name indicates, contains its own hard drive and can probably hold every song you own. These players also tend to have larger screens, more features, and are easier to use--some even play videos. As you might expect, they also cost more, starting around $200 for the less expensive models, and going up to $400 or more at the top end.

Micro Hard Drive Players

These devices offer some of the features and memory capability of a hard drive MP3 player, but at a slightly lower price and with greater portability. Their miniature hard drives yield decent memory (up to 12 GB), and they still have many features to offer. Recently, these "micro-drive" players have begun to be phased out in favor of the high-capacity flash-based players (below), but good models with lots of features are still available in the $150-$250 price range.

Flash Based Players

Perfect to take jogging, hiking, or anywhere you want to be active, as the flash-based MP3 players have no moving parts. They're also smaller than either of the two other types, and can be pretty inexpensive--some models can be purchased for less than $30. Low memory used to be a problem, but advances in technology have changed this. Now most flash players sport at least 512 MB of memory. The downside of a flash MP3 player is that it tends to be less feature-rich than other types, and it can be a bit more difficult to use. Don't expect to find a flash based MP3 player with more than 8 GB of memory.

MP3 CD Players

Though these are becoming rarer these days, you can still find MP3 players that play data CDs with music on them--and they can play your music CDs, too. You can fit about 10 albums' worth of music (approximately 150 MP3 files) on a 650 MB disk.

If you're trying to decide on an MP3 and you find yourself a little frazzled--don't worry. Check out the above article to find out which MP3 player is correct for you. Browse, http://www.mp3.jsgenterprises.com for more articles on MP3 players.

Choosing The Best Fishing Rods

There are fishing poles, and then there are fishing poles. There is a Rod for every fishing situation, and knowing the difference will certainly pay off in the long run.

While many may argue that the term "pole" refers to a relic of a tool while a "rod" is a more sophisticated piece of fishing equipment, the fact remains that the two terms are generally interchangeable. Whether called a pole or a rod, the tool has been fashioned in the same manner for many years, with the basic materials of graphite, carbon, fiberglass, bamboo or composites proving to be the main improvements. Another is in design, with different poles being used for different purposes. While there are many, the main types of fishing rods are fly fishing poles , spin casting rods and bait casting rods.

Fly fishing poles or rods need to have a lightweight and flexible nature . Bamboo fly fishing rods offer best quality, but generally are an costly choice . Graphite rods are the most highly sought types on today’s market as they are strong, lightweight and yet flexible. Usually between 7 and 9 feet on length, the size of the stream or lake dictates which pole length should be used. The term “rod weight” actually describes the line size used on the pole, and can range between 1 and 15. This method of fishing is generally for a more experienced level, as it requires a fair deal of effort for the angler. This is because it is the line being cast rather than the lure.

Spin casting is a relatively easy skill to acquire, and is recommended to many beginners primarily for that reason. Shorter than most, the spin cast rod also requires high flexibility. The reel is the tool that needs the most practice, as it is a technique; however, it takes most people just a few minutes to learn. Located on the top of the fishing pole, the spin cast reel is within easy reach and control of the angler. The size of rod and line will vary depending on the type of fish being pursued; bass would need a heavier weight than a panfish would require.

During professional fishing tournaments, bait casting is the common method. Bait casting rods are heavier and longer, and stronger to be able to combat the fighting foe at the end of the line. This type of fishing pole is also very popular with bass fishermen due to the short time it takes to land their bass using the strong and powerful line. The reel also sits on the top of the pole, and is able to handle the heavyweight line needed to bring in “the big one”. Bait casting poles and reels take much more practice to master, and is considered to be more for the experienced angler.

Fishing poles vary widely to meet many needs, as is evident by those on the market today. There is a rod for every situation, and for many fishermen, having several rods means they are prepared for any situation.

Camping clothing

Are you planning to take a camping parks adventure?   If you are, have you ever been camping before? If this is yours first time taking an extended camping vacation, you may be unsure as to what you should bring along with you.  If that is the case, you are definitely not alone. Camping air conditioners are pieces of gear that you will want to make sure that you bring along with you. If you are camping with your family or your romantic partner, you will want to make sure that you have enough sleeping bags to go around. You may need to take along a thick sleeping bag. Things to do for Halloween in Utah County

Every year in Utah I begin my search for "things to do" for Halloween ambiance. I love getting into the Halloween Spirit early so I can enjoy the full month of spooks and treats. We love chocolate, hand made candies, and Halloween toys.

The first week of Halloween we usually spend a day decorating the inside of the house. On our most adventurous Holidays we buy a few bales of hay, and corn stalks to decorate the outside. Next we begin planning our Halloween adventures for fun. We look for pumpkin patches, hay rides, spook alleys, Frightmares at Lagoon, and Haunted Forests as our main staple of entertainment. For real excitement we book tickets with Theatrical plays based on Halloween themes.

It's close to midnight and something evils lurking in the dark
Under the moonlight, you see a sight that almost stops your heart
You try to scream but terror takes the sound before you make it
You start to freeze as horror looks you right between the eyes
You're paralyzed

'Cause this is thriller, thriller night
And no one's gonna save you from the beast about to strike
You know it's thriller, thriller night
You're fighting for your life inside a killer, thriller night

This version of thriller has characters like Frankenstein, The Curse of the Mummy and Jason. Ticket prices begin at $20.00 and children under 6 are not allowed.

Enjoy a Cemetary Haunted Halloween walk this year

Are you looking for something different, unique and surprising? I thought this seemed unique and well, definitely surprising to hear that people can enjoy a "Draper's Haunted Hollow" tour that walks people through a real cemetary to listen to "ghost" stories.

This is a night of fun family events including:
Face paintings
Donuts and cider
Kettle Corn
Scavenger hunt for children
Pumpkin patches
monsters will be availble for photo ops with children
(all activities are donated by local businesses and will offer Girl Scout and elementary booths - this keeps the event "free")

250 Free Business Cards at VistaPrint!

As you learn about those buried in the cemetery their personages will appear some are meant to make you laugh while some are meant to be a bit spooky.

This event is a favorite of many families and because of that nature you must acquire a ticket prior to attending. All tickets are free of charge and can be picked up at Draper City Hall 1020 E Pioneer Road.

Event times and starting places:
On Monday October 27 2008 from 6:00 - 8:30 pm you will begin the tour at the Sorenson Home 12597 South 900 East, it will progress into the Draper Cemetery and end with trick-or-treating in the Draper Historic Park.

Ideas for Planning a successful Party -

  1. Keep it simple
  2. Keep it short
  3. Ask for help
  4. Keep it safe

Parties don't need to cost a lot nor be blown out of proportion. Once you identify the theme of the party identify your budget and begin planning around that price. Next find 1-2 items that will get you bang for buck. Focus on small items that have huge impacts on the looks and feel to the event.

Example: I am throwing a company party for 50 people and have a budget of $3750.00 or $75.00 per person. What are my options?

  1. Rent a theatre room for a new release movie
  2. Look at catering at a nice location and bring a belly dancer and karoke as entertainment
  3. Take them River Rafting
  4. Take them Hot Air Ballooning
  5. Try indoor skydiving with iflyutah.com
  6. Rent a barn at Wheeler Farm, Have meiers catering with the chuck wagon and have rent a entertainment show

Big Cottonwood Canyon Fall Foliage Pictures

Driving up Big Cottonwood Canyon during the Fall Season (August, September and October) you will find that each day will bring you delightful changes to the Mountain scenery. These pictures were taken on Saturday September 27th in the Big Cottonwood Canyon. I wanted to focus on the mountain sides of the Canyon to show you how each side of the mountain gives you such a different look!

Guardsman Pass offers Intense Fall Foliage pictures

Every year we travel to Big Cottonwood Canyon and on through Guardsman Pass to enjoy the fall leaves. Many of they years you will find very few live trees with fall foliage but this year is the best I have seen! Things are extremely brilliant, beautiful, vibrant, fall foliage and every day we go up things just seem to get better. These pictures were taken at the top of Guardsmans Pass. We hope you enjoy them!

Solitude Ski Resort in Fall Foliage

Solitude Ski Resort is one of the more famously loved ski resorts in Utah. It's close to Salt Lake City, has wonderful winding mountain roads up Big Cottonwood Canyon and yet takes very little time to get to.

During the Fall season you will find some extremely vibrant fall foliage that will delight your senses next to Solitude.

You will find huge patches of intense yellows surrounding the Solitude Ski Resort. Starting at the entrances you will be greeted by flaming yellows and oranges.

It's beautiful to pull into the parking lot of Solitude and be welcomed by clusters of fall foliage at it's best!

This next picture is high in the mountain top with the chair lifts. Can you picture taking a ride on the Solitude chair lifts to enjoy the beauty of the trees. This would be an amazing ride up and down but unfortunately the ski lifts aren't running yet!

The leaves this year have been extremely healthy. I was able to get close enough to this tree (3rd picture) to show you the health of the leaves along with the richness of color found in Utah.

If you are in Utah for the month of October do not hesitate to take a drive up the mountains. Within 1-2 hours you can enjoy all areas of the mountain along with stopping and taking a few hikes up to enjoy the trees within the mountain.
